UST student councils launch relief drive for student-victims of Ondoy

MANILA, September 28, 2009—In the spirit of brotherhood and charity, students of the University of Santo Tomas have launched a donation drive for their fellow students whose families have been victims of the unruly floods and relentless rains caused by typhoon Ondoy.

Officers and staff members of the UST Central Student Council have urged the local student councils and other concerned students to render volunteer work for the packing of relief goods, clothes and other donation for typhoon victims.

Dubbed as “Tara Tomasino, Tulong Tayo,” the donation drive will be held tomorrow at Room 202 of the Tan Yan Kee Student Center from 9 a.m. onwards.

“In response to the increasing number of typhoon victims who need help, the Central Student Council thru its Committee on Community Development and in coordination with the local student councils, will be having a donation drive. Collected donations will be first given to our Thomasian victims, while the residual donation will be forwarded to Sagip Kapamilya ABS-CBN foundation,” the UST CSC said in an announcement.

Aside from rendering volunteer work, students are also encouraged to donate relief goods, bottled water, beddings, usable clothes, medicines and other baby needs.

Earlier, Giovanna Fontanilla of the UST public and alumni affairs office said classes in all levels in UST will be cancelled until Wednesday. (Kris Bayos/CBCP News)
